I’m a graphic designing learning specialist and instructional designing data analyst teacher.
How did I get here?
I started my professional life as a graphic designer. I worked on intimate projects like event collateral to global projects for a US top-ten advertising agency. It was great, but something was missing. I needed my professional energy to feel like it was going towards something more positively impactful to my community. So, I became a teacher.
I quickly realized my background in design served my students in ways I could not have predicted. My ability to conceive and produce an instructional resource with an eye for accurate information design meant I had a superpower in the classroom. It was not long before I realized there was a place for both of my professional skills to align and impact student success.
In 2015, I moved out of my own classroom and into many others as an Instructional Coach, where I focused on instructional design and data analytics. In 2021, I was excited to expand my reach to serve my region as a consultant for the Data Solutions team with Region 10, Educational Service Center. I trained on data management systems and integrated data analysis and response to intervention best practices. I then moved into the role of Ed-Tech development for our in-house service center digital products.
To bring all of my experience into focus and expand my knowledge in the science of learning, I started pursuing my Master of Science Degree in Learning Technology, focusing on the applications of artificial intelligence as it applies to Learning Analytics. This program deepened my understanding of cognitive psychology-informed instructional design and taught me how to build digital learning experiences that follow scientific principles behind learning. I have also gained a comprehensive understanding of artificial intelligence's role in education now and AI’s potential for more robust learning experiences in the near future.
